Indeed I felt as though last sem went by in a wink of my eye! I would however like to put it that way cause it was an eventful one. So let me hit the road to this journey by summarising it. The sem started with a bang complete with infi orientations. I would like to take the opportunity here to tell you that infi in iitb lingo refers to a very large number, a shortened use of infinite. We being freshmen were not aware of the different clubs, activities, competitons and other student oriented programs going on in the institute. This was basically to let us know about all such events where participation is encouraged. I was wonderstruck at the amount of non-academic activity prevalent here. When we are on the other side of the gate our perception of an institute of such a stature is that of one where you find people all around you immersed in books 24x7. But to my great surprise this image of mine went for a complete toss coming to this side of the gate. One of these orientations was that of 'moodi' or Mood Indigo the annual cultural festival of iitb touted as the biggest festival of its kind in the whole of asia. Although scheduled for a december execution preparations for it were already in full swing. As we kept going to the LT for these orientations in the evenings so also were we going there for lectures in the morning and before we realised the first quiz timetable was out!! The feeling of being in India`s best engineering institute had not sunk in yet when they already announced exams. So being the first exam of our session here everyone hit the books at the thought of the quiz.
Being spaced over a couple of weeks the first nightmare was finally over with. And mind you i mentioned the 'first' nightmare. While this was going on i was also involved in trackmania-a rough track racing contest. Then there was also line-follower sessions.
Here we are supposed to enrol at the start of the session for NSS, NSO or NCC. Me being highly enthusiastic about doing social service, yeah really u read it right ;-P joined the NSS(National Service Scheme). Further i was alloted the Educational Outreach department. Every week i would go to NSVK(NSS Sanganak Vidya Kendra) and teach the students which was a mix of children and adults the basics of the use of computers. It was a fun and a one of its kind experience. It was indeed a good feeling to share my knowledge with others eagerly willing to learn.
Then there were a number of other competitions in fresshizza and others conducted by different clubs like the essay writing on gandhi jayanthi by lit club.
After that endsems arrived, a difficult task for me considering the fact that i dont study at all, somehow i managed to get over with it.
Then finally in december it was moodi time. I had a good time checking out the different contests happening and especially the harley davidson exhibition. It was fun roaming around with friends.
Shortly i will be back with summarising other details of sem1 and diving into the recently commenced sem2.
Till then...
...Ashish!
